1. The Great Khali (Dalip Singh Rana)
The Great Khali changed the game in 2006 when he became the first Indian to sign with WWE. Standing over 7 feet tall, he made a brutal debut by taking out The Undertaker.
Just one year later, he won the World Heavyweight Championship.
Khali’s size and strength made him a global sensation. Since retiring, he has focused on training talent and runs his own Continental Wrestling Entertainment (CWE) academy in Punjab, and was inducted into WWE’s Hall of Fame in 2021.
Lately, he made headlines for his spiritual journey at the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela, taking a holy dip in the Triveni Sangam. He also appears in Bollywood and Hollywood projects.
2. Jinder Mahal (Yuvraj Singh Dhesi)
Born in Canada to Indian parents, Jinder Mahal entered WWE in 2011. Mahal’s early WWE run was forgettable as part of the comedy trio 3MB.
Released in 2014, he returned transformed, physically and professionally. In a stunning 2017 push, he defeated Randy Orton for the WWE Championship, becoming the first Indian origin world champion. His ‘The (Modern Day) Maharaja’ persona, backed by the Singh Brothers, celebrated his Punjabi heritage and drew massive Indian viewership.
Now on WWE Raw, Mahal remains an active competitor and mentor to newer Indian talent. He occasionally appears in mainstream Indian media, promoting WWE’s expansion in South Asia.
3. Kavita Devi
A former weightlifting champion and student of Khali’s CWE, Kavita Devi became the first Indian woman to compete in a WWE ring. She turned heads in the 2017 Mae Young Classic with her power-based style.
Although her WWE career was short-lived, her presence opened doors for Indian women in sports entertainment. A knee injury in 2019 halted her career. She now coaches at Khali’s CWE academy and advocates for women’s wrestling in rural India.
4. Veer Mahaan (Rinku Singh Rajput)
A former professional baseball player, Veer’s WWE journey began through Khali’s CWE. After a slow-burn debut teased for months, he arrived on Raw as a fearsome solo act, crushing local competitors.
His rivalry with The Miz showcased his intensity.
Released in April 2024 alongside Sanga, Veer is weighing options in pro baseball and wrestling.
5. Sanga (Saurav Gurjar)
A former kickboxer and actor (he played Bheem in Mahabharat), Gurjar signed with WWE in 2018.
Saurav Gurjar, known as Sanga, began his wrestling career alongside Veer as part of the Indus Sher tag team.
A former TV actor in India, his size and charisma made him stand out. After being repackaged in NXT 2.0, he was briefly featured as a bodyguard for Grayson Waller. His main roster run was limited, and he was released in 2024. He’s now back in India, possibly eyeing a return through another promotion.
6. Jeet Rama (Satender Dagar)
A highly decorated amateur wrestler, Rama joined WWE in 2015 and spent years honing his craft in NXT.
His televised moment came in 2021 against AJ Styles during WWE’s Superstar Spectacle. Despite strong performances, he didn’t get much TV time and was released later that year. Since then, he’s returned to India and contributes to developing new talent.
7. Dilsher Shanky (Gurvinder Singh Malhotra)
The towering Shanky (7’0”) debuted alongside Mahal, evolving from enforcer to comic relief. Despite limited in-ring opportunities, his dancing gimmick with Mahal and a brief 24/7 Championship reign made him a fan favorite.
Still on SmackDown, Shanky balances comedy segments with rare competitive matches. He’s active in WWE’s community initiatives in India.
8. Giant Zanjeer (Sukhwinder Singh Grewal)
“Giant Zanjeer” debuted in 2021 (Superstar Spectacle) with Dilsher Shanky at a tag team match with Rey Mysterio and Ricochet against Dolph Ziggler, King Corbin, Cesaro & Shinsuke Nakamura.
Standing at 7’2″, Giant Zanjeer was WWE’s tallest Indian recruit. His size alone made him stand out, and he made a notable debut during the Superstar Spectacle. However, he wasn’t seen again and was released the same year.
He currently trains and competes locally in India.
9. The Singh Brothers (Sunil and Samir Singh)
Originally known as the Bollywood Boyz, “The Singh Brothers”, real-life brothers Gurv and Harv Sihra, became famous as Jinder Mahal’s loyal sidekicks. Their comedic interference tactics helped Mahal retain the title, and they later won the 24/7 Championship multiple times.
They were masters at taking punishment, often getting slammed around to protect their leader. Their antics added drama and flair to Mahal’s title reign.
Released by WWE in 2021, they returned to the independent circuit as the Bollywood Boyz. They also appear in films and promote wrestling clinics across North America.
10. Mustafa Ali (Indian Descent)
Adeel Alam (born March 28, 1986) is better known by his ring name, Mustafa Ali.
Born in the US to Indian and Pakistani parents, Mustafa Ali brought technical prowess and high-flying ability to WWE’s cruiserweight division.
His push was inconsistent, but fans admired his agility and storytelling. He eventually led the short-lived Retribution faction. Ali was released in early 2025 and is now one of the most in-demand wrestlers on the independent scene.
These wrestlers transcended sports entertainment, becoming symbols of pride for 1.4 billion Indians. Khali’s Hall of Fame entry, Mahal’s championship reign, and Devi’s barrier-breaking courage prove that the subcontinent’s wrestling legacy is in capable hands.
As WWE’s presence expands via streaming and live events, the next decade promises even greater opportunities for Indian stars to shine on wrestling’s grandest stage.
Today, many of them are building the next generation or making noise outside WWE. What they’ve proven is simple: India isn’t just a market for WWE, it’s a source of talent, strength, and fierce ambition. And this is only the beginning.
