WWE Superstar Giulia Def. Zelina Vega to Win the Women’s United States Championship
Forget the lights going out, nothing could dim Giulia’s moment! This past Friday Night SmackDown in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the rising star officially became the third-ever WWE Women’s United States Champion by dethroning Zelina Vega in an exciting match.
The show itself hit a snag with a surprise power outage, delaying the action by about 30 minutes. But once the lights (and cameras!) came back on, the real fireworks began. Giulia, showing off her devastating power, sealed her victory with a brutal combination: first the lightning-fast Kamigoye knee strike, followed immediately by the crushing Northern Lights Bomb! One, two, three, new champion crowned!
This win is the latest rocket fuel in Giulia’s incredibly fast rise on WWE’s main roster. Since joining SmackDown full-time in mid-May, she’s been on a tear. She instantly jumped into the high-stakes Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match, and reports quickly surfaced that WWE had big plans to feature her prominently on the blue brand. Those plans involved gold!
Giulia isn’t brand new to WWE, though. She first stepped into the ring back in September 2024, making waves in NXT, where she quickly captured the NXT Women’s Championship. Her journey from NXT standout to SmackDown sensation to now United States Champion has been swift and impressive, proving she’s a major force.
For Zelina Vega, this loss ends her reign after 63 days. She had won the title from Chelsea Green back on April 25th on SmackDown. During her time as champ, Vega only managed to defend the belt once, successfully facing Green again on a special Saturday Night’s Main Event episode in May. Now, the spotlight firmly belongs to the powerful and dynamic Giulia as the new Women’s United States Champion!
